2 Ton Tessie

 

I mentioned in a previous article as a serviceman in London UK during WW2 we were given free tickets to, live shows, cinema, and the clubs where artists would visit to meet with the servicemen and at the same time give an impromptu performance.

 

On this occasion I was sitting with other servicemen having a quiet meal, when the door opened and 2-ton Tessie O'Shea, complete with her banjo burst into the room, and the whole atmosphere became alive. She proceeded to play her Banjo and sing a song. Then passing her Banjo over and with the piano playing in the background headed straight for me, pulled me out of my chair on to the dance floor.

 

Can you imagine this immense but very active woman virtually carrying me around in tune with the music, much to the delight of the other servicemen.

 

Still a very vivid moment carried with me for all of my life.
