Let’s Talk
As my old grandmother used to say “some people can talk the leg off an iron pot” or to quote a more recent saying “watch out for them, they’ll graft themselves on to your ear”
Well that’s not what “let’s talk” is all about. I should add two more words to help clarify things a bit, “let’s talk about us”
For as long as I can remember, which amounts to a long, long, time, organizations from many spheres of life have been telling us that they know what we are thinking, and consequently what’s best for us. How wrong they can be, has been constantly proven, and it will continue to be that way.
Since the rapid onset of technology bursting into our living rooms, this has become an art form, attempting to mold our thinking.
Now that politicians have been given access to Television, radio, and the internet they have become a classic example. I take back my previous phrase of art form, and supplant it with another, “manipulation”. I feel more comfortable with that as a descriptive word.
How many times have you heard this projected over the air waves?
85 percent of Canadians polled agree with this that or the other.
This poll was taken by such and such a company involving 1200 people, by phone, and is within + and – 3 percentage points.
Have you ever come across anything more manipulative in your life?
Where does that leave us. I could say, up the creek without a paddle, but that doesn’t even begin to describe where we are really at.
I think we are now living in a very confused society, and perhaps a plausible reason might be that we are all looking out at “them” and not back at us.
When we are together as a family, we are not Liberals, Conservatives, Democrats, or Republicans, just folks trying to progress from one day to the next with the least possible resistance.
So, let's not be “their” echo chamber, and start talking about us not “them” and I don’t mean me, or you “Lets talk about us”
